Ashton Meeting Place

 Public Hearing

Thursday, May 15

AMP Public Hearing on Thursday, May 15

The Planning Board’s public hearing on the design for the Ashton Meeting Place (AMP) development at the intersection of Route 108 and New Hampshire Avenue will be held on Thursday, May 15.  The exact time has not yet been set.  We will notify the list when we know it.  The meeting will be held in the auditorium at the Park and Planning Commission building at 8787 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.  We previously announced that the public hearing for Derrick’s Addition would be held at the same time, but, since then that hearing has been postponed.  We will send out a notification when we find out the date.

The design being presented to the Planning Board is based on the conceptual plan developed by the developer, SSARPC representatives and other citizens at a Charette (retreat) held in July, after the Planning Board had rejected the developer’s plan in a public hearing held in June.  The SSARPC web site has more information and documents relating to the Ashton Meeting Place project.

The SSARPC Steering Committee will be recommending that the Planning Board approve the plan, with conditions.  One condition is that a diagonal path across the green at the corner of Route 108 and New Hampshire Avenue be incorporated into the design in order to facilitate pedestrian access and protect the landscaping.

Citizens will be invited to testify at the hearing.  Testimony will be limited to three minutes per person. If you have written testimony that you would like to submit along with the testimony, bring ten copies to the hearing.   Registration for testimony will be available when the Planning Board agenda for the day is complete.  We will provide registration information at that time.

It is now time for you to send letters or email to the Planning Board to let them know your thoughts and ideas.  If the letter is or email received by Monday, May 5, it will be included in the initial package sent to the Planning Board members. All correspondence received prior to May 15 will be given to the members of the Planning Board.  The place to send the correspondence is given here.  The Planning Staff should also be sent copies of all correspondence.  The SSARPC Steering Committee would like to receive a copy (email to feedback@ssarpc.org).

The Planning Staff report is not available at this time, but will be next week.  When it is available we will send a notification to the mailing list.

If you have questions, please address them to feedback@ssarpc.org.
