Ashton Meeting Place

Public Hearing

May 15

The new design for Ashton Meeting Place will be presented to the Montgomery County Planning Board on Thursday, May 15.   The public hearing will begin at 9 AM in the auditorium at the Park and Planning Commission building at 8787 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.  There will be an opportunity for members of the community to verbally express their opinions about the design.  If you would like to testify at the public hearing, call 301-495-4600 to register.  You can also register online.  Testimonies are limited to three minutes and, if you have written testimony, bring ten copies to the hearing.

Written comments will also be considered and should be sent to both the Planning Board and the Planning Staff as soon as possible, so that they may review your comments prior to the hearing.  SSARPC would also like to see what you submit (send it to feedback@ssarpc.org).

The SSARPC Steering Committee has sent a letter to the Planning Board recommending that the plan be approved with conditions.  The two conditions are:

  • Provide a path diagonally across the green plaza at the intersection of Route 108 and New Hampshire Avenue
  • Ensure that there is a mix of house sizes with detached garages on the R-60 portion of the property

The Montgomery County’s Park and Planning Staff will be recommending “Approval with Conditions” to the Planning Board at the public hearing on May 15.  The staff report is available for reading online.
